SLOW ROASTED PEARS WITH SAGE AND ICE-CREAM

These pears are divine! And they are so easy to prepare... When I have the time, I serve them with vanilla, cinnamon or chocolate panna cotta, but if in a hurry, I just serve them with ice-cream. They melt in your mouth. You will need to cook them for about 3 hours though, so you must plan this recipe ahead.

INGREDIENTS:
4 pears
6 sage leaves
1/2 firmly packed cup brown sugar
1/3 cup water

METHOD:

    Preheat oven to 160 C.
Peel, halve and core the pears, leaving the stems intact.
Place the sage leaves, sugar and water in a flameproof casserole (I use a cast iron casserole) and stir over low heat until sugar has dissolved.
Add the pears, coat with syrup and cover with lid.
        Transfer to the oven.
Cook for about 3 hours or until pears are very tender. Check halfway and turn pears if necessary.

          Cool.
Serve with ice-cream or panna cotta and drizzle with any remaining pear syrup.
